Yakima Monster

Get those images of Godzilla and Mothra out of your head! I know you were thinking it, but this beer has nothing to do with Japan whatsoever. Yakima is actually a region in the state of Washington USA where some of my favourite hop varieties are grown. This monster of a pale ale showcases several of them. It's an easy drinking beer, flavoursome enough for your father 'n law to exclaim "Wow - that's fruity!" yet complex enough for any green blooded hop-head to appreciate. Yakima Scarlet

My original records for this beer date back to a batch of home brew in June 2007. It was a beer called IPA Massacre. It was brewed three times under this moniker with minor tweaks along the way. The most significant tweak I made to the recipe was changing it to using hops grown in Washington USA. Accordingly, in January 2011 the name was changed to Yakima Scarlet. There were no less than seven iterations of this beer brewed before releasing what you hold in your hands right now. I still don't know what style of beer it is, but I can tell you that it is hoppy and it is red.

Alpha Dogg

Right now as you are holding this bottle in your hand, you must be getting to the point where you're curious as to the "style" contained within. Well as the label ever so subtly suggests, it's all about the alpha. That's right. There are exactly 567,124μg of alpha acid dissolved in this beer. In particular, Humulone - the alpha acid responsible for the smooth bitterness balancing this beer. Included amongst the alpha's are some pretty cool essential oils too... my personal favourite - Myrcene is abundant in solution. There's also a decent whack of Humulene too. Basically this beer is about one thing only. Hops. What "style" of beer is it?
I guess you'll need to try a glass to find out, Dogg.

What is in a name? Under conventional language guidelines you would expect to find any number of consonants, and to a lesser extent, you will find the odd noun. But if your have a look at the name of this beer, you will find that it has an exclamation mark right in the middle of it. What’s that all about? Doesn’t that just seem a little unusual? It’s definitely not a typo - and if you’re reading this, then I guess it’s done it’s Job. The next step is to take this bottle home. Go on. You won’t regret it.
